Hi Lesley and Jim

I'm very sorry if I disturbed you last night, I just couldn't help myself - I really wanted to let you know what a difference our new saddle has made.

Yesterday I spent some time tacking up, trying to remember everything you'd told me, and generally just enjoying pretending to be a cowboy.  I cinched up gently and took my time, and although we had grimacing, Morrigan didn't step into me once, which is already an improvement.  I got on and settled in with pottering and wandering and general scanning the horizon for my lost cows (I really did want to be a cowboy when I was small).

Morrigan was relaxed and low and offered me a trot 3 or 4 times, which I was happy to accept - initially slightly uncomfortably as I felt I was "fishing" for my stirrups (sorry, fenders), but when I relaxed and sat tall - my goodness - how comfortable and easy is that?! (And how much longer are my legs than I thought they were?!)

Then we had the grumps - the ears back and hump up in the top corner that we had on Sunday - which I was able to calmly ride through (even grinning) and we settled again.  Then, disaster.  Morrigan executed the exact same move that sapped my confidence 2 and half years ago.  She napped, spinning quickly and dipping her shoulder, missed her footing and pecked deeply.  Last time I made a sharp exit over her left shoulder and my (high velocity) bodyweight unbalanced her further - she landed on her knees and rolled onto her shoulder.  Although we were unhurt, I was very shocked that I'd had a horse fall with me, which started the what-ifs and left me a gibbering wreck, obviously impacting very badly on Morrigan's confidence too.

This time, I was so well balanced in the saddle , we just rode through it.  That was it - "oops-a-daisy, naughty girl, let's carry on" - I feel so much more secure and confident, especially now I know Morrigan is comfortable, and after this we were able to have a lovely little schooling session AND (no, there's still more) we had bendy circles instead of scratchy hexagons!!

So we've had improvements in saddling and schooling after just two rides, with an added bonus of me not falling off!

Thank you so much for making us both more comfortable.

Attached is the view from my saddle at 7.30 last night!

Hi from Helen and Tara,

Whose fabulous western endurance saddle you sold me in 2004 is getting loads of use here in rural Catalunya - great riding country. The horses quickly got used to sunny Spain instead of wet West Yorkshire. Our holiday cottages are very popular with country lovers and we're happy to give Hooves Western customers 10% discount!
